Welcome to the museum!


Here is what you can see and hear:

In 8 antique rooms you can admire old time pieces, mechanical music instruments and automata:
  • Turret clocks, wallclocks, pendules, organ clocks, pocket and wristwatches

  • Musical boxes, barrel organs, an orchestrion and an electric piano

  • An antique watchmaker's workshop with old benches, machines and tools

  • Sunday, June 3rd, 2007: Ursula Bischof Scherer, Bern: "From the traditional wall clock to the electronic Muezzin" (in German)
  • Sunday, August 5th, 2007: Cheerful classical music on mechanical instruments
  • Sunday, September 9th, 2007: Hans-Peter Hertig, Oberhofen: "Yours is nothing else than the hour you live in" (in German)
  • Sunday, September 22, 2007: Klösterli breakfast

How to get to the museum

By public transportation:
  • From Bern or Interlaken by fast train to Thun (about 20 minutes)

  • From Thun by bus 21 across the street from the railway station, direction Oberhofen/Interlaken to "Wichterheer Gut" station. Departures 5 minutes after the hour and then every 15 minutes. Travel time about 15 minutes from Thun

  • From Thun by boat to Oberhofen (during summer months). For time-table informationn click on boat schedule. From the boat landing about 10 minutes walk keeping to the right

By private car:
  • From Bern or Interlaken highway to Thun

  • From Thun take the road to Gunten and Interlaken along the north shore of the lake. The museum is located on the right side of the road at the end of Oberhofen (towards Interlaken). 10 to 15 minutes drive. There is a covered parking opposite the museum.


Opening Hours:

  • October 22nd, 2006 until May 13th, 2007:
    Sunday 2 - 5 p.m.

  • May 15th, 2007 until mid October, 2007:
    Tuesday - Sunday 2 - 5 p.m.
    Monday closed

  • Guided tours for groups can always be arranged. Registration required.

All visitors will be guided (in English) through the museum


Entrance fees (including guided tour through the collections and the special exhibition in English):
  • Single person CHF 8.--, retired persons: CHF 7.--
  • Groups of more than 7 persons: CHF 7.-- per person
  • Group visits out of the regular opening hours: minimum CHF 120.-- or CHF 7.-- per person for groups of 18 or more visitors
